West Village Real Estate - NYC Living
The West Village is the western portion of the Greenwich Village neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan. Though there are no defined boundaries, the area is usually defined as bounded by the Hudson River and either Sixth Avenue or Seventh Avenue, extending from 14th Street down to Houston Street. Bordering neighborhoods include Chelsea to the north, the Hudson Square section of SoHo to the south, and the core of Greenwich Village to the east. A sub-neighborhood, the Far West Village, extends from the Hudson River to Hudson Street.
The West Village has a charm that sometimes is unmatched. With it’s own rich history and culture, the West Village still boasts its meandering narrow streets from its early days as a small country village. Historically known to house the hip, today it follows its tradition and is a modern day center for writers, artists, intellectuals, radicals, actors, and students as well as many professionals and families. The West Village has a European feel and charm to it with its quiet tree lined streets, low-rise (sometimes 1 family) townhouses, and a plethora of cafes, small shops, and music clubs. Given all history and charm, it's no wonder why the West Village is one of the most popular and consequently more expensive neighborhoods. Of course, many argue, and deservedly so, that it’s worth every penny.
