Gramercy Real Estate - NYC Living
Gramercy, also called Gramercy Park, is a neighborhood in the New York City borough of Manhattan, focused around Gramercy Park, a private park between East 20th and 21st Streets at the foot of Lexington Avenue. The area is named for a stream which meandered like a 'crooked little knife,' or 'Crom messie' in old Dutch ('Krom mesje').

Roughly speaking, Gramercy is bound by 14th Street, The East River, 30thStreet, and 5th Ave. To the west is the Flatiron District and Union Square, to the south the East Village, to the east Stuyvesant Town and Peter Cooper Village, and to the northeast Kips Bay.

Gramercy Park is one of New York's most historic and unique neighborhoods. It offers a mix of the bohemian downtown living, home to many restaurants, trendy nightlife and great shopping, while at the same time giving a sense living in an uptown sophistication with its old residential feeling.

The true beauty of Gramercy Park is displayed by the many pre war townhouses, brownstones, and high-rises buildings surrounding the park built many of which were built by famous architects. Gramercy Park gets its name from being the only private park in the city. Key access is needed and is given to those who live on the perimeter of the park. It is open to the public once a year.

With its widespread charm and amazing location Gramercy is popular among young professionals and older citizens alike.
